Project description

LILA is a free consumer-directed, online project to benefit people living with significant disabilities in Los Angeles County.  LILA is an information resource and community assets web site, created and mapped online by local LA residents with disabilities, with goal of empowering other disabled residents in their efforts to lead independent, self-directed lives within the social, physical and political fabric of their communities.  LILA is also a resource tool to be utilized by families, caregivers, social workers, policy makers and those who provide an array of services to people with disabilities living in or visiting Los Angeles County.

Through a partnership with the Westside Center for Independent Living, as well as the City and County of Los Angeles, LILA has identified over 3000 community resources and incorporates public county, municipal and non-profit service agency databases of importance to the disability community, including access information and pertinent countywide services and programs.

Funders and supporters of the LILA project include the California Endowment, Microsoft Corporation, the Community Technology Foundation of California, GTE Foundation, the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, The State of California, and UCLA (Bruin On-Line Internet and email accounts for participating “asset” mappers).
